In 2003 I made a dramatic career change and left the field of business consulting to become a secondary teacher. Since that time I have worked with thousands of at-risk teenagers in any number of subjects and roles. I am a master teacher and have worked on a dynamic curriculum team for years in one of the largest, most successful public school districts in the greater Houston area.
I teach because I love students, not subject matter. That being said, I am certified in math, science, social studies, business, finance, English, and ESL. While I have taught all of those subjects in some form, I have been primarily a high school English teacher since 2008. I also hold a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science, and I am a certified librarian as well as classroom teacher.
It is the craft of teaching that drew me into the profession, and after almost two decades, I still love what I do. I choose to teach the teenagers who struggle the most and are the hardest to reach, and it is so very rewarding.
In 2005 I took on my first freelance writing client, and I never looked back. I am pleased to say that I still work with some of my first clients, and the relationship we have built over the past fifteen years is incredible. It is thrilling to be part of a new project, and satisfying to see companies grow and change and improve over the decades.
Currently I selectively take on only a handful of new clients. I prefer to work with business, travel, or educational topics, but I am flexible. I also have a great deal of experience writing about parenting, lifestyle, and for or about teens and young adults. I am a comfortable technical and copywriter as well.
What is life without a bit of adventure? As a single parent to two teenage boys, I have taken them on adventures in tents, campers, cruise ships, resort rooms, and airplanes since they were in diapers. To date, I have visited every state park in Texas. I have no qualms as an independent woman traveling alone or with children. That's just how we do things down here in Texas.
I have owned four campers, and countless tents. I am a registered member of Scouts BSA and a merit badge counselor. I am well on my way to visiting every National Park in the United States, to be followed by every continent across the globe. I've hiked, rafted, skied, and swam as often as possible. I've driven cross country for days. I love the desert, the ocean, and the mountains. I love to see and experience new things, and I love to write about them as well.
